Installing Irfanview
Step 1
Use the following link to download Irfanview from a selection of mirror sites:
http://www.irfanview.com/main_download_engl.htm
The current version of Irfanview is 4.10. Shown below we have chosen the Tucows website to download the latest release. Chose the 'Save' option and save the file to a location on your computer that you can easily locate, ie your Desktop or your 'My Documents' folder.

Step 2
Locate the downloaded file and double click to launch the installation. The first step of the installation allows you to set where you wish to have Irfanview icons available from the desktop and/or the start menu, and the location of the installation folder. In most instances you do not need to edit anything here.

Step 3
Pressing the next button brings you to a box listing the changes to this version of Irfanview. Press next again to continue to the following box:
Here we can select which file extensions we would like to have associated with Irfanview. In this instance we only want to associate graphic files with Irfanview so that when we click on a jpg for instance it automatically opens up in Irfanview.

If you scroll down the list of extensions you will see there are many different types that you can associate with Irfanview, a lot of these require plugins to be installed along side Irfanview. Please see our tutorial on Installing Plugins for more information.
Step 4
Click the next button to continue. The next box gives you the option to install the Google tool bar, this installs in to your web browser and allows you to easily search the internet using Google. It is not a necessary part of the installation to have Google Toolbar so you can skip this option if you do not want it.

Clicking next on the 'Ready to Install' box opens up the above warning to let you know that you are changing your current file associations - click yes and then next.
The installation is now complete. Clicking on the 'Done' Button will launch the Irfanview FAQ.
