Batch conversions with Irfanview
The batch conversion feature allows you to make specifc changes to a group of image files saving a lot of manual editing, renaming and file saving. You can rename, resize, apply effects, rotate, crop, change output file type, add border, add text and much more!
Step 1
Press b on your keyboard or go to 'File' on the menu bar and select 'Batch conversion/rename' from the drop down menu. Using the drop down box named 'look in' browse to where the files you wish to convert are located, click and press add, or add all.

In this box you can chose what your output files will be renamed to, where they will be saved, what format you would like them in and also some more advanced features. The $N in the 'Name Pattern' box means that the files will be renamed with the original file name then -thumb so 'On Front 014.jpg' will be renamed to 'On Front 014-thumb'.
Step 2
Clicking the 'Advanced' button opens up the box shown below. In this instance the images are set to be resized to 50% of their original size, flipped horizntally and also converted to grey scale.

Press the 'ok' button when you have put in your required settings, and then press the 'Start Batch' button on the main Batch Conversion box.
Tip
If you wish to save these settings so that you can re-use them in the future press the 'Save Settings' button at the bottom of the box. This saves the settings in a file with the extension of .ini your settings can then be loaded in to Irfanview again by pressing on the 'Load Settings' button, then browse to your saved .ini file and open it!
If everything has gone to plan you should get the following screen confirming that all your files have been successfully converted:

If you get any warnings make sure that you have the files set to rename correctly.
