Resizing an image with Irfanview
Resizing an image in Irfanview is quick and easy using the following steps:
Step 1
Open the image you would like to resize in Irfanview
Step 2
Click 'Image' on the top menu and select 'Resize/Resample' to open the following dialog box:

Here we can reset the size of the image in either pixels, cm or inches. There is also the option to reset the size using a percentage.
The box next to "Preserve aspect ration" is ticked, this handy feature means that when you enter a new width for your image the height is adjusted to prevent the image from being distorted. In some cases you may wish to uncheck this option in order to set the image to exactly the size that you require.
The standard demensions section allows you to easily resize your image in order to use for desktop wallpaper for example.
Step 3
Enter your new dimensions, here I am going to take the image size from 600px x 855px to 200px x 285px. Clicking 'Ok' applys the new dimensions.

Because the 'Preserve aspect ratio' box is left checked as soon as 200px is entered in to the width box the height box is automatically set to 285px.
Please note that the black space to the right of the image is empty and is not part of the resized photo.
Step 4
Save your file.
If you wish to copy over the old large image go to the menu and click on 'File' then 'Save' or if you wish to save the file under a new name go to 'Save As' and create a new file name. Press ok to save your file.
